Nomination Paper Collected for Zia in Chapainawabganj-2, Enthusiasm Among Activists
Nomination paper has been collected on behalf of BNP's heavyweight candidate Aminul Islam Zia for Chapainawabganj-2 (Gomastapur-Nachol-Bholahat) constituency ahead of the upcoming parliamentary election. Leaders of his representative team collected this nomination paper from the Assistant Returning Officer's office on Saturday (January 03) afternoon. Massive enthusiasm was noticed among local BNP activists as they participated in the election activities of the party candidate after a long time.
Presence of Representative Team
Over a hundred activists of associate organizations including the President and General Secretary of Gomastapur Upazila BNP were present during the collection of nomination papers. They filled the upazila premises with slogans like 'Zia Bhai Go Ahead'. Leaders said although Aminul Islam Zia is currently abroad, this nomination paper has been bought under his instructions. It is expected that he will return to the country soon and take part in the election campaign.
Importance of Constituency
Chapainawabganj-2 constituency is known as a stronghold of BNP. Aminul Islam Zia is a former Member of Parliament of this seat and has immense popularity in the area. The morale of the opposition camp has been boosted as his candidacy is confirmed. Local voters say if Zia is in the election, the fight will be tough. The ruling party candidate will have to face a tough challenge.
Cases and Legal Complications
Although there are multiple political cases against Zia, lawyers said there is no legal bar for him to participate in the election. He is on bail in all cases. Still, BNP is cautious about whether the government tries to stop him through any conspiracy. Leaders say they will protect the election field by staying on the streets.
Campaign Strategy
Unofficial campaigning has started in the area since the collection of nomination papers. Young activists are campaigning for Zia on social media. Committees are being formed at the union level to organize the grassroots. BNP leaders say no rigging will be allowed this time, they will return home only after counting every vote at the centers.
