Two Armed Youths Arrested with Foreign Pistol and Ammo in Noakhali's Begumganj

Police arrested two youths with a foreign pistol, magazine, and two rounds of bullets in a drive at Begumganj Upazila in Noakhali. They were detained from Eklashpur area of the upazila on Friday (January 02) morning. A special team of Begumganj Model Police Station conducted this operation based on secret information. The arrestees were allegedly involved in terrorist activities in the area for a long time.

 

 

Operation Based on Secret Info

 

 

 

Police said they had information that a group of terrorists was staying in Eklashpur for sabotage. Based on that information, under the direction of the Superintendent of Police, a team led by the Additional Superintendent of Police surrounded the area. Sensing the presence of police, the two youths were caught red-handed while trying to escape. An American-made 7.65 mm pistol was recovered from their waist after searching their bodies.

 

 

 

Identity and Cases

 

 

 

The arrested are Md. Rafiq (28) and Sumon Hossain (25). Both are local residents of Begumganj. Police said there are multiple cases against them in the police station including murder, extortion, and arms act. They are known as identified terrorists of the area and patrons of teen gangs. In primary interrogation, they admitted to keeping arms and also revealed the names of their godfathers.

 

 

 

Relief Among Locals

 

 

 

Relief has returned among the locals at the news of the arrest of these two notorious terrorists. Locals said Rafiq and Sumon had established a reign of terror in the area for a long time. They used to collect extortion from businessmen by showing fear of weapons. No one dared to open their mouth against them out of fear. They demanded exemplary punishment for these terrorists.

 

 

 

Police's Strict Warning

 

 

 

The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Begumganj Model Police Station said, "Terrorists have no party, their only identity is criminal. No illegal arms holder or terrorist will be spared in this area. Our operation will continue." A case was filed against the arrestees under the Arms Act and they were sent to jail through the court in the afternoon. It is known that the police will apply for remand to interrogate them further.
