Tribute to Martyrs: Shipping Adviser Inaugurates New Launch Ghat Named After Osman Hadi in Nalchity
The modernized launch ghat in Nalchity of Jhalokati has been named after Osman Hadi, a martyr of the mass uprising. The Shipping Adviser formally inaugurated the ghat by unveiling the nameplate on Saturday (January 03) afternoon. He said, "Martyrs are the best children of the nation. It is our moral duty to preserve their memory. Osman Hadi gave his life fighting against injustice, his name will be etched in the hearts of the people of this region."
Modern Facilities of Ghat
Modern pontoons, waiting rooms, and toilet facilities have been ensured for passengers at this new launch ghat built under the supervision of BIWTA. Locals had been demanding a safe launch ghat for a long time. The adviser said all dilapidated ghats in the southern region would be renovated in phases. With the opening of this ghat, the long-standing suffering of passengers traveling on the Dhaka-Nalchity route will be alleviated.
Emotion of Martyr's Family
Members of Martyr Osman Hadi's family were present at the inauguration ceremony. They became emotional at the naming of the ghat after their son. Hadi's father said, "My son gave his life for the country. We are grateful for the honor the government has shown him. I hope his sacrifice will not go in vain." The crowd present also applauded this initiative.
Local Development Plan
In his speech, the adviser assured immediate steps to prevent river erosion in Nalchity Upazila. He said mega projects are being undertaken to protect this settlement from the erosion of Sugandha and Bishkhali rivers. Besides, he ordered to strengthen dredging activities to remove navigability crisis of waterways. He called upon local administration officials to work with transparency.
Crowd at Rally
After the inauguration, a civic rally was held in the field adjacent to the ghat. Thousands of people took part in it. Local political leaders and social workers highlighted various problems of the area in their speeches. The adviser listened to them patiently and promised solutions. The event turned into a gathering of people.
