Rebel Jamaat Leader Expelled in Mymensingh-6 for Violating Party Discipline
An influential local Jamaat leader has been expelled from the party for filing nomination papers as an independent candidate in Mymensingh-6 (Fulbaria) constituency. This information was given in a press release sent from the central office of Jamaat-e-Islami on Saturday (January 03). The expelled leader Professor Jasim Uddin is the former Amir of Fulbaria Upazila Jamaat. This strict organizational action has been taken against him for participating in the election disobeying the party's directive.
Party Decision and Warning
Jamaat-e-Islami did not field any candidate in this seat due to strategic reasons and supported the candidate of the like-minded alliance. But Jasim Uddin did not accept this decision of the party and announced to fight as an independent candidate. Although he was requested multiple times to withdraw his nomination, he rejected it. The press release said, "The party is bigger than the individual. Anyone violating discipline will not be kept in the party."
Reaction of Jasim Uddin
Jasim Uddin is not much perturbed by the news of expulsion. He told reporters, "I am the people's candidate. The party did not evaluate me, but the people of Fulbaria want me. I take the expulsion order as a blessing. Now I can work more freely." He claimed that a large number of grassroots activists and ordinary voters are with him.
Impact on Field Politics
New polarization has appeared in the politics of Fulbaria as a result of this expulsion. There is a fear that the Jamaat vote bank will be split into two. While one part remains loyal to the party's decision, Jasim Uddin's personal followers will work for him. Local analysts think this could make the victory of the alliance candidate difficult.
Confusion Among Workers
Confusion has been created among ordinary workers as the leader was suddenly expelled. They are in a dilemma about whom to work for. It is known that central leaders will try to handle the situation by visiting Fulbaria soon. They are instructing workers to remain united and work for the alliance candidate.
