Raid Based on Secret Info: 2 Detained in Cumilla with Police Arms and Ammo Looted from Dhaka

Joint forces have conducted a successful operation to recover police weapons looted from various police stations in the capital. Two pistols, a shotgun, and a large amount of ammunition were recovered from a secret hideout in Cumilla Sadar Upazila on Saturday (January 03) morning. Two youths have been detained for their alleged involvement in this incident. Police said the recovered weapons were looted from a police station in Dhaka after August 5.

 

 

Drama of Operation

 

 

 

District Detective Branch (DB) of police and a team of army conducted this operation jointly. They learned that a criminal gang was trying to take the looted weapons to the border for sale. Based on that information, a house in the border area of Cumilla Sadar was surrounded. Sensing the presence of law enforcement agencies, two persons were caught red-handed with weapons while trying to escape.

 

 

 

Identity of Detainees

 

 

 

The detained youths are Shafiq and Rana. Their home is in Jatrabari area of Dhaka. In preliminary interrogation, they admitted that they are members of an organized arms trafficking gang. They used to collect looted weapons from various police stations in Dhaka and sell them to terrorists in different districts of the country. Raids are continuing to catch other members of the gang based on their information.

 

 

 

Forensic Test of Arms

 

 

 

The recovered weapons have police seals and registration numbers on them. They will be sent to the forensic lab for confirmation. The Superintendent of Police said it is being investigated whether there was a plan for major sabotage with these weapons. He requested common people to inform the police if they find illegal weapons and assured to keep the informant's name secret.

 

 

 

Legal Action

 

 

 

A case has been filed against the detainees at Kotwali Model Police Station under the Arms Act and for theft of government property. They will be sent to court and a remand application will be made. Police say this special operation will continue until all looted weapons are recovered. This will play an important role in restoring public relief and keeping the law and order situation normal.
