Third Day of State Mourning for Khaleda Zia: Special Prayers in Mosques Nationwide
Three days of state mourning are being observed across the country following the death of former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia. On this third and final day, various programs are being observed with solemnity nationwide. On Friday (January 02), special prayers and munajat were held in all mosques across the country after Juma prayers seeking forgiveness for the departed soul. Devout worshipers prayed to Almighty Allah for the peace of her soul.
Crowds in Mosques
Thousands of people gathered in various mosques, including Baitul Mukarram National Mosque in the capital, after Juma prayers. Imams in their sermons recalled her colorful political life and contributions to the country. Leaders and activists of various political parties were also seen participating in the prayers with tearful eyes along with the general public. An emotional atmosphere was created in mosques across the country.
Participation of Leaders
Top leaders of various political parties, including BNP, participated in prayer gatherings at various mosques in the capital. They said Begum Khaleda Zia was an uncompromising leader of democracy, whose contribution the nation will always remember with respect. Local level activists also organized prayers in mosques in their respective areas and distributed food among orphans and the destitute.
Prayers by Others
Not only Muslims, but people of other religions also organized special prayers in their places of worship. Special prayer meetings were held in temples, churches, and pagodas seeking peace for Begum Zia's soul. People of all walks of life expressed solidarity in this moment of grief, forgetting religious differences. This has set a unique example of communal harmony in Bangladesh.
Flag at Half-Mast
As part of the state mourning, the national flag has been kept at half-mast in all government, semi-government, and autonomous institutions of the country today as well. Officials and employees of various departments expressed grief by wearing black badges. Normal activities are expected to resume from tomorrow after the observance of these three days of mourning.
