Parliament Election and Referendum on Same Day? Writ Filed Challenging Validity

Is it possible to hold two massive events—the National Parliament Election and a referendum—on the same day? Challenging the validity of the declared schedule, a Supreme Court lawyer has moved to the High Court. A writ petition was filed on Monday (January 5th) seeking a stay on the schedule for holding these two elections simultaneously.

Constitution vs. Reality: Sensation ArgumentsAdvocate Yunus Ali Akand filed the writ in the public interest. He raised a critical constitutional question: the current constitution has no mention of an 'Interim Government' system. Since there is no constitutional basis for this government, no election held under it can be legally valid. The Chief Election Commissioner and other top officials have been named as respondents.

Election Commission's StanceWhile the legal battle heats up, the Commission remains optimistic. CEC A. M. M. Nasir Uddin stated at the Election Bhaban that the environment for the 13th National Parliament Election is satisfactory. He expressed hope that with everyone's cooperation, a free and fair election will be possible despite the legal complexities.
