Influential BNP leader of Bagerhat, MAH Salim (Silver Salim), has announced to contest the election as an independent candidate after failing to get party nomination. His representatives confirmed that he will fight from Bagerhat-1, 2, and 3—these three seats. Nomination papers were submitted on his behalf at the District Returning Officer's office on Saturday (January 03) afternoon. This incident has created a huge stir in the local political arena.

Reason for Rebellion

Sources close to MAH Salim said that although he has been working for the party for a long time, he has been undervalued by the center. He is particularly angry that another candidate was nominated despite his popularity in his own area. A spokesperson said at a press conference, "He was forced to become an independent candidate under the pressure of people's love. Those who were not by the side during the party's bad times have been nominated, which the grassroots did not accept."

Vote Equation

Political analysts believe that Salim's candidacy in three seats will pose a major challenge to BNP's party candidates. His own vote bank and financial capability have made him a strong contender. This is likely to split the opposition vote, which could indirectly benefit ruling party candidates.

Party's Stern Message

Meanwhile, BNP has taken a tough stance on rebel candidates. The central office has informed that those who contest elections going against party decisions will be expelled for life. However, Salim is ignoring these threats. He says, "Even if the party expels me, I am in the hearts of the people. I will prove who made the right decision by winning the election."

Campaign Preparation

Immediately after filing the nomination, Salim's supporters have started campaigning in all three seats. They are going door to door seeking votes. Printing of election posters and leaflets is going on in full swing. It can be said for sure that the 'Silver Salim' factor will have a big impact on Bagerhat politics this time.
