Sensation in Rajshahi: BMD PA Bony Gets Election Observer Card Posing as Fake Chhatra League Leader
Serious allegations have been raised against an employee of Barind Multipurpose Development Authority (BMD) in Rajshahi for collecting an election observer card using a fake identity. Md. Bony Israil, working as PA to the BMD Chairman, obtained the Election Commission card claiming himself to be a former Chhatra League leader. A stir began in local political and administrative circles when the matter came to light on Saturday (January 03). Questions have arisen regarding the scrutiny process of the Election Commission.
Resorting to Fraud and Concealment
Investigation reveals that Bony Israil is primarily a government employee, which makes him ineligible to be an observer according to election laws. He concealed his professional identity and applied as a representative of a nominal NGO and introduced himself as an influential Chhatra League leader. Local Awami League leaders said Bony was never in any post of Chhatra League. This is complete fraud.
Administrative Action
After the matter came to notice, the Rajshahi District Returning Officer immediately ordered the cancellation of Bony's observer card. He said, "Legal action will be taken against anyone obtaining a card with false information. We are investigating the matter and will write to BMD authorities to take departmental action against him." Police have also been asked to look into the matter.
Statement of BMD Authorities
The Executive Director of BMD said Bony Israil did this without taking any permission from the office. He has been served a show-cause notice for violating government service rules. He said, "The institution will not take responsibility for personal crimes. If proven guilty in the investigation, he may be temporarily suspended."
