Venezuelan Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino Lopez has warned of strict resistance against the presence of any foreign military forces on the country's soil. In a televised address on Saturday (January 03), he said the army is ready to protect Venezuela's sovereignty. He made this remark in the context of increased military activities of the United States and its allies on the border in recent times. He made it clear that a fitting reply would be given if any foreign power interferes in Venezuela's internal affairs.

Steadfast Stance on Sovereignty

Padrino Lopez said, "Our constitution has given us the sacred duty to protect the independence and integrity of the country. We will not bow down to any imperialist power." He alleged that a foreign state is conspiring to loot Venezuela's resources and provoking at the border. He claimed that the Venezuelan army is fully capable of thwarting any aggression.

Stern Message to USA

Although he did not directly mention the name of the United States, his hint was towards Washington. Recent US sanctions on Venezuela and military exercises have heightened tensions between the two countries. The Defense Minister said that while the path to a diplomatic solution is open, they will not sit idly by in the face of military threats. He called on the international community to condemn this aggressive behavior.

Army Preparation and Drill

Alongside the speech, the Venezuelan military organized a drill as a show of strength. Tanks, fighter jets, and missile systems were displayed in it. The Defense Minister ordered the troops to be on maximum alert. He said soldiers are ready to give their lives to protect every inch of the country's soil.

Full Support for Maduro

In this speech, the Defense Minister reiterated the army's full loyalty to President Nicolas Maduro. He said any coup or conspiracy against the elected government would be resisted. He also advised the opposition to work for the interest of the country instead of acting as agents of foreign powers. Analysts think this statement will further strengthen the position of the Maduro government.
