Case Filed Against 600 Including 55 Named in BTRC Building Attack and Vandalism
A case has finally been filed regarding the unprecedented attack and vandalism at the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) building in Agargaon, Dhaka. A senior BTRC official filed the case at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station on Friday night. The case specifically names 55 individuals and accuses another 500 to 600 unknown persons. Police said the process of identifying the attackers by analyzing CCTV footage is underway.
Severity of Attack and Damage
According to eyewitnesses, a group of agitated people suddenly broke through the main gate of the BTRC building yesterday afternoon. They extensively vandalized the ground floor reception room, security checkpost, and several vehicles. The attackers smashed the building's window panes and valuable furniture. Extreme panic spread among BTRC officials and employees at this time, and many started running in fear.
Police's Strict Stance
Following the filing of the case, the police administration has announced stern measures. The Deputy Commissioner of the Tejgaon Division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) said that such attacks on important state installations will not be tolerated in any way. Several people have already been detained for questioning. Police are conducting raids in various parts of the capital to arrest the fugitive accused.
Security Measures Tightened
After this unexpected incident, security measures have been unprecedentedly tightened in the area around the BTRC building. Patrols by RAB members have been seen alongside the deployment of additional police. BTRC authorities stated they are committed to maintaining normal service operations, but fear still lingers among the staff. Plans are being made to revamp the building's security protocols to prevent such incidents in the future.
Reasons Behind the Attack
Initially, it is suspected that the incident may have stemmed from long-standing customer dissatisfaction regarding slow internet speeds and price hikes of data packages. However, police are investigating whether there is any organized political provocation or the hand of vested interests behind this. The ministry has assured the formation of an investigation committee to uncover the main mystery of the incident. General customers have also condemned this violent incident and called for a peaceful solution.
